This has been quite a year of conflict between police and the communities that they are hired to protect and serve. From Ferguson Missouri, to Cleveland, to Baltimore, acts of police use of excessive force that has resulted in the death of young Black men have provoked rioting and peaceful protest. Both responses have demanded justice as have the police whose jobs are becoming increasingly hazardous. What can be done to break the spiral of escalating retribution? How should the police relate to citizens? How should citizens relate to police? When mistakes are made- what can keep emotions under control so that there is a chance for justice?
Can you share any positive examples of police-community collaboration?
